–>Walking by Faith made simple for the over planner<—
I gotta tell ya, I see a lot of crazy nonsense these days in preaching about God’s will—on what it is and isn’t. A lot of people make God’s will seem like it’s some complex Rubik’s cube that only God knows how to solve, but somehow you need to miraculously find how to solve it or ELSE! Honestly, if only God can fully know and understand the complexity of His plan for your life, I’m pretty sure His ‘puzzle’ is way WAY more complicated than a Rubik’s cube and is impossible to solve without His help.
. Because when you really think about it, if God does want us to find His will for our lives, wouldn’t He make sure it would hit us like a ton of bricks? I mean why would the ONLY person who understands and fully knows what THEY want you to do withhold that thing from you, especially if you have asked Him? Then what’s worst, would this person actually take you to be judged and condemn you for not following what He never told you in the first place? I mean if He’s God, I’m sure He could, but stay with me here.
“For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
Psalms 84:11(NASB)
The key to finding God’s will is knowing who God is, knowing who He created you to be, and then asking Him how to use the gifts and talents He placed within you to do what’s pleasing and glorifying to Him(Read Matthew 6:33; Romans 12;Psalm 37:4). I believe some people overcomplicate God’s will, which causes a struggle in walking by faith. You pray and pray and pray. And then you study and study and study, until finally you come up with this one perfect answer. Then when you find out you cannot follow through you start wondering: ‘Well, maybe it wasn’t God’s will after all’. How about we take Nehemiah’s approach to following God’s will. Just a bit of a background for those who don’t know Nehemiah. He was a high official of a non Jewish king. Nehemiah had a heavy burden placed on his heart from the Lord. He became discontent serving where he was currently at because he heard about the destruction of the wall of the Jews, his people. He felt so distressed he was led to fast and pray which then opened up a door for the King he served under to let him leave and go rebuild the wall. During this passage we are about to read they were about to build when opposition came their way. Let’s read:
“Now when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and greatly enraged, and he jeered at the Jews. And he said in the presence of his brothers and of the army of Samaria, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they restore it for themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish up in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, and burned ones at that?” Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “Yes, what they are building—if a fox goes up on it he will break down their stone wall!” Hear, O our God, for we are despised. Turn back their taunt on their own heads and give them up to be plundered in a land where they are captives. Do not cover their guilt, and let not their sin be blotted out from your sight, for they have provoked you to anger in the presence of the builders.
So we built the wall. And all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.”
Nehemiah 4(ESV)
We see here that there was opposition, Nehemiah cried out to God against his enemies, and they continued to do move on to what they needed to do. What Nehemiah did during this whole bible story was pray(and sometimes fasted) then move. Pray then move! He did not mull things over for a long time on what he should or shouldn’t do. He didn’t seek 20 bazillion wise counsel on what he should or shouldn’t do. He didn’t make up an elaborate 20 step plan on what he should do. He simply asked God to help him in what he felt led to do and then did it when or if the means for him to do it were there. Seriously we need to: Just do it, like Nehemiah. When I first started walking by faith intentionally and trying to find God’s will I wrote this to myself in a journal entry because I most certainly was guilty of being over analytical about everything pertaining to God. This was mostly because I wanted so badly to please God and do things ‘perfectly’(- stands up- Hello my name is Adrianna, and I used to suffer from severe perfectionist syndrome thanks. –sits back down- c: ).
As I have grown in my walk with the Lord I definitely realize that doing this can mess up God’s flow and what He’s trying to do in our lives in general. I often sat and spoke with the Holy Spirit in amazement how I did things so easily with God’s help(I mean CRAZY things that would make your jaw drop) when I barely knew the Word of God and even when I was living in sin. Sometimes, admittedly, it would discourage me, but then I started actually thinking about what I did in those moments and one thing that I found to be predominate was: I didn’t really think. ‘Wait, what, so you didn’t use your brain?’, some of you might ask. Well, yes I did, I used my natural logic to make a decision, prayed about it, and then walked out and did it. I didn’t really stop to smell the roses, so to speak, and every time—I mean, seriously, every time, God blessed what I went out and attempted to accomplish tremendously.
“Then the king said to me, “What are you requesting?” So I prayed to the God of heaven…. And the king granted me what I asked, for the good hand of my God was upon me.”
Nehemiah 2:4, 8(ESV)
Now, don’t get me wrong sometimes you need a more in depth answer about what it is you’re doing from God because some of you aren’t really spending time seeking Him. Sometimes you’ll even need to wait on God( I wrote about that HERE). However, if you’re like me it’s best to not fall into the trap of over thinking. When walking by faith you have to let go of your plans and follow God’s anyway. Don’t sweat it if you can’t get things right at first, go back in prayer and ask God to guide you. Remember that God guides us and makes provision where He wants us at, but in the end He trusts us to make the decision.
