At Christmas time, when I was younger, I used to wonder what my parents were going to get me. The joy and excitement of opening presents were really what the thrill was in this holiday as opposed to the actual presents. Out of all my siblings, I was usually the one who was the most excited and happy to open the gifts and enjoy the gifts no matter what they were. In fact sometimes I would get so excited I would open or take my siblings gifts, but I’ll talk about stealing on another day, heh heh. I always have to say the best gifts I’ve ever received were gifts that the giver somehow knew I needed or wanted, when I didn’t even express or know I wanted it. There’s something about receiving something that is exactly what you needed, even if you don’t realize it at the time. This is why I have to say, the best gift is God’s salvation.
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

Call it odd, strange, or peculiar, but God always seems to know us much better than we even know our own selves. It is miraculous to me every time I see Him, pull me out of a situation and find out that I probably would have fell into sin there due to stuff that He later shows was in my heart or how He gives me opportunities I never thought I would enjoy, but later on find out that it was exactly what I needed to experience. Salvation, though, is the best out of all my experiences with God because it is the reconciliation of our relationship with the Father through the death of Jesus.
A lot of people often wonder why I’m mourning over sin at times, angry at sin sometimes, and then out of no where rejoicing and filled with joy or joking around. It’s because I have a relationship with God. When you are friends with someone, you will weep when they weep, you will get angry sometimes over stuff they are upset about, and you will joke and laugh with them as well. I’ve done all with God, and still do. This is what I love the most about God, aside from His faithfulness, is the different sides to Him. He becomes indignant, He mourns with us, and He rejoices in our victories. Yes, He is God, and it is good to respect Him and His authority, but He also calls us His friends when He is telling us things.
“You are My friends if you do what I command you. “No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. “
John 15:14-15(ESV)
Another thing I like about salvation is our freedom from sin. A lot of non believers might not get this all the way, but when you experience God’s joy, peace, and love it’s hard to want to go back. God gives us freedom from resentment, bitterness, or hatred over what has happened to us in the past. He also gives us freedom from the guilt, shame, and condemnation we might feel over what we have done to others in the past. The point is, is that God helps us move forward and stay focused on moving forward. Of course, life has its ups and downs, but as people who are free, we definitely don’t have to stay in bondage, even while we are down.
“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:11-13(NKJV)
If you want to be free too:
1. Ask God for forgiveness of your sins,
2. Repent(or turn away) from those sins and ask God to help you repent
3. Ask God to send the Holy Spirit, so that you can continue to walk free of sin and be guided by Him.
4. Have faith/belief that He will guide you and has forgiven you through His mercy.
5. Find a bible that’s easy to read, there are many translations(my faves are NASB,NLT, and ESV), so that you can understand what His word says. Start out reading the gospel of John, it’s right after Luke.
