“Timing is everything,” is how the saying goes. In fact, timing is so prevalent in our current society that when it’s completely off, out of whack, or out of sync, everyone seems to notice. Not only do we notice, but we become frustrated and agitated any time our flights are delayed, our appointments have to be rescheduled, or a meeting has to be canceled. I cannot count how many times, I have been delayed in traffic and have seen others around me on the road become irritated due to construction slowing down traffic moving forward.
When we are in these situations either others or even we ourselves become frustrated to the point that we try to force things to move forward. I’ve often seen cars jerk and make sharp turns to get off the street of the traffic or they will attempt to cut in front of others to get to where the want to be at before it’s their time. How many times have we tried to move ahead of our own time in life? How many times have we tried to force God’s hand and push God to do what we wanted Him to do, instead of just doing what He spoke for us to do and then waiting to see where He wants to take things?
“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens: ”
Eclessiastics 3:1(NIV)
So, maybe you’ve asked God about your purpose, maybe He’s given you a blueprint of sorts of what it should look like and where you will end up. Maybe God has just told you about things that He has promised for you and will give to you, however, you can’t even begin to piece together how this blue print will come alive. See, we are not the architect—we are not God. A prophet can be given a vision or a Word, but that doesn’t mean that they see the full picture like God does(see scripture). However, learning to discern God’s voice well enough to know how and when to act is pivotal in moving in the direction He has for you.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, ”
Hebrews 12:1(NIV)
You can completely know your purpose, know about promises, or know God’s plans, but if you do not understand the season that God has placed you in, you might move ahead too soon and take on things that are a bit to burdensome for you to bear in the current season that you’re in. The good thing is, God will allow you to move at your own pace and your own speed in developing your purpose and call. There is no need to let other people rush you into things you don’t feel prepared for or have no clue how to do. Purposes and Words from God in the Bible often took years before anything came of them. This does not mean that it will take a lot more years than necessary for you to walk in your calling, but it does mean that God is a God of patience. He is not a God of haste. God will not hurry you to walk in the things that you are called to do at all. He will encourage you to grow and pace yourself until you get to where He needs you to be.
“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. ”
2 Peter 3: 9(ESV)
To be blatantly honest, you cannot truly rush God, because God knows the times and seasons at which things are meant to happen. God is the one that will end up making the things happen in your life, however, we can get ourselves in to a bit of trouble by taking on things that are too much of a burden for us. If you have no sign from God to move forward, and you feel as though the weight that you’ve picked up is a bit too much for your current season. Perhaps you’re far too busy in this current season to do anything. Then you should gently put the weight down and lift the other weights God told you to lift in the current season your in. Those weights will still remain where they are. The only thing you need to do is wait until God says to pick them back up.
The funny thing is, in the past season I was in, I was dealing with such a busy, and tiring season. Filled to the brim with demonic attack, that I ended up experiencing this exact thing. I could feel God telling me to set down weights and focus on the main task He spoke to me to do in the previous season. Sometimes you want to carry it all. You want to be able to manage everything that God spoke would happen in your life perfectly, unfortunately, it might not yet be time. The good thing is that God will show you when it is time, and the weights, call, or promises, He wants to fulfill in your life will be fulfilled when the need to be. Rest easy knowing that God knows what He’s doing.
