When God Tells You To Exit

Have you ever felt like you’ve gone down the wrong path? There was warning sign after warning sign telling you that this was not the door God had for you, yet still you went down the wrong path anyway. You feel like you’ve picked the wrong degree, the wrong job, and maybe even the wrong person to enter a relationship into with. You didn’t listen to God at all, nor did you consult Him when you went down this path, you just went on your own pathway.

The truth is you wanted that woman to be your future wife so bad, you never slowed down to make sure God was actually speaking to you. When it came to school, you simply just went with what everyone else said you’d be good at, rather than listening to God. Your job just ended up being something you chose to just ‘pay the bills’ because you never once in your life just tried to wait on God and what HE wanted.  If this is you, there is still hope if you believe in God. The God you believe in is a heavenly Father who is ready to step in on your behalf, even when you’ve made what you feel like is a mess of things.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Romans 8:28(NKJV)

Although it rains on the unjust as well as the just, the difference for believers is that God promises to help us with our mistakes, if we decide to confess them and come to Him for a solution instead. When we fail, He shows Himself strong and faithful. When we go down the wrong pathway, He promises to catch us before we fully drown.

“And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?  And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.  Then they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.”

God is not going to let you drown! He is not going to let you continue to go down a pathway that will completely destroy you or cause you to stay out of your will. Sometimes you need to be like Peter and cry out for the Lord to save you from your wrong mistakes! When it comes to God, our “failures” usually end up being God’s redirection back onto the pathway He intended you to be on all along because our ‘mistakes’ help us realize that God never intended us to be on that pathway in the first place. Even if you did NOT consult God before you made that decision and messed up, He will still work it all out for your good. This does NOT mean we should keep continue doing the same mistakes we’ve done in the past. No, we should learn from them.

Some of you are not in the wrong path at all, but are simply experiencing some turbulence down the path you know that God sent you down. When I first started my degree in Engineering, I thought I had chosen the wrong path as soon as I got into my upper level courses, because things began to get difficult. However, after a bit of self-reflection, I realized that God had been using my experience this whole time in this degree to mold and shape me into the believer He needed me to be so I could fulfill my purpose in life. Every difficulty and every struggle was there only to help strengthen my faith and help break away certain thought processes I had before about God.

Just because something starts out as difficult does not mean it will always stay difficult in the end. You can start out as a piece of coal, but end up shining like the diamond you are at the end of the story. It is up to you to learn how to hear God’s voice on whether or not you should be doing anything because when you start walking in what God has called you to do, there are going to be some moments when your faith will be tested. During these times you will need to be able to stand on what God has spoken for you to do so that you will not waver in your faith.

Ask yourself is this choice bringing you closer to God or pulling you away? Is the choice you made strengthening your faith or is it causing you to grow weaker and weaker in your belief in God? The tests and trials that we go through are not meant to discourage us completely, but are there to cause us to cling closer to God in our times of distress or trouble. When you go through a door that God never intended you to into, you’ll find yourself barely holding on and barely making it through the struggle ALL the time because God never equipped you to deal with this type of struggle in the first place and had never intended to equip you on how to deal with it, if you even make it through at all. A lot of the time things will not work out for you because you are on the wrong path.

To speak honestly, if the Lord’s hand is upon you to do a work the only way God will NOT turn things out in your complete favor is if you are consistently and willfully disobeying Him. If you made a misstep out of ignorance, however, please remember and know that God is not a harsh task master that will leave you in the dust because of one simple mistake. God loves you and cares for you deeply and there is no way that He would ever allow you to go out of His grasp unless you chose to live like an unbeliever. In the days of the monarchs, a king would provide protection, provision, and peace to his kingdom. God is no different today. He is our King and He is a King that offers us complete and total protection. You are not without a King. So, if you chose the wrong path, come to Him. He will guide you back to where you need to go.

“and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”
