Frustrated while you wait…
Could you imagine two sisters standing one next to the other being told by their Father that He had a gift to give each one of them, but they would have to wait for it. Both initially believed the father with the same level of faith, but one sister received the gift before the other. Yet still, the other sister sits while she watches her sister enjoy her gift as the years pass on by. Did the sister who received the gift first necessarily have a stronger faith than the other sister? This is not always the case. Believe it or not, having faith that’s able to stretch out years of waiting on God for something, takes more strength than just receiving what God has for you in a short amount of time. Still, some days it gets frustrating. You start wondering, ‘Did I really hear from God on that?’. When is this going to happen? Am I doing something wrong to delay this promise from coming? Why are you withholding things from me God?!’
Christianese 101: God’s Plan NOT yours
Imagine two people were given a seed, which was placed in the ground to watch over and cultivate. Both people were given an instruction on how to care for the seed to cause it to grow. Person A, was told to hop on one foot near the seed at least twice a day, until he was tired. Person B, was told something similar, but because he had so much KNOWLEDGE about taking care of and growing plants, he REFUSED to take care of the seed the way the instructions stated. No, instead he went to Google and YouTube to research and figure out HOW to grow the type of seed he was given and began doing NORMAL things to take care of a seed he thought was average.
Man A obeyed the instruction and hopped on one foot every day, and immediately saw some type of growth in his seed, whereas the man who became doubtful and discouraged by the instruction saw no growth at all. As man B saw man A begin to get fruit and growth from what he was doing with great ease, he became frustrated and discouraged! ‘Why is this man getting any growth at all? What he is doing is foolish! It makes absolutely no sense according to everything I’ve researched and all I know!’. Unfortunately for man B, the person who gave them the seed was NOT an average man, but was God, and was the One who gave him the instructions as well.
Without A Covering

Imagine being in a hot and dry desert. Your lips are cracked and parched due to thirst and your stomach is rumbling due to hunger. You look around, but don’t see any water or trees for shade miles around. The skin on your face is scorched due to you not having a covering on your head. It’s not that you weren’t offered a covering at the beginning of your journey. The people who led the tour knew that you would need one and continued to offer it to you. However, you aggressively denied what you can now clearly see you desperately needed. What’s worse is that you fought tooth and nail to bring what YOU thought was an adequate covering to shield you from the burning sun.
You didn’t know the conditions were going to be this bad, you say. You didn’t know that it was going to get this hot, but the tour guides knew. How often do we do this with God? He knows exactly what protection we need, what covering we need, but we refuse the one that He offers. We refuse even His own protection! We live our life without His covering—without His blessing!
