How have you been approaching God in prayer lately? Mad, confused, defeated, or filled with unbelief? It’s possible that God wants to answer your prayer but first must deliver you from what’s inside your heart. If you been having difficulty seeing an answer to some of your prayers this might just be the sermon for you. God doesn’t call us to stay wimpy and weak in our faith, but calls us forward to grow in the Spirit as we walk with Him. Purpose Series:: Discerning your Seasons | How to Know God’s Timing
“Timing is everything,” is how the saying goes. In fact, timing is so prevalent in our current society that when it’s completely off, out of whack, or out of sync, everyone seems to notice. Not only do we notice, but we become frustrated and agitated any time our flights are delayed, our appointments have to be rescheduled, or a meeting has to be canceled. I cannot count how many times, I have been delayed in traffic and have seen others around me on the road become irritated due to construction slowing down traffic moving forward.
When we are in these situations either others or even we ourselves become frustrated to the point that we try to force things to move forward. I’ve often seen cars jerk and make sharp turns to get off the street of the traffic or they will attempt to cut in front of others to get to where the want to be at before it’s their time. How many times have we tried to move ahead of our own time in life? How many times have we tried to force God’s hand and push God to do what we wanted Him to do, instead of just doing what He spoke for us to do and then waiting to see where He wants to take things?

If you saw a person who was utterly confident, unwavering in their beliefs, and capable of succeeding at everything they set their mind to do, would you think that they had no idea who they were? Most likely the answer is no. It’s very rare for a person to have these qualities without having a strong sense of self. Knowing who you are and whose you are can not only help you to find your purpose, but can actually lead you to succeed in more areas of your life than normal. Maybe you’re in a place where you don’t understand why you could never succeed at anything. Maybe you’re wondering why you aren’t where you want to be in life. The answer has a lot to do with the fact that you have no idea who you are, who you belong to, and therefore have no idea what the purpose and plan is for your life. In short, you have no direction at all and without direction you will never move to the place where you want to end up at in life.

Have you ever been negatively accused of being something or someone you’re not? Usually you would brush it off, if a complete stranger made accusations about you. You might not see them again and they are not close enough to you to make a true assessment of your character. It’s awkward and upsetting, however, when people who are supposed to know you, don’t know your nature at all. So, you can only imagine how God must feel when people are claiming to serve Him and be friends with Him are misunderstanding and misjudging His character.
How many times have you accused God of being unfair or anything BUT good because He did NOT give you something? Have you assumed the Master was harsh because of your circumstances? This is a dangerous place to be in as a Christian. I would know because when God was trying to break me free of an atheist mindset, I struggled with thoughts like this due to my inability to see God’s hand moving on my life.

Imagine being in a hot and dry desert. Your lips are cracked and parched due to thirst and your stomach is rumbling due to hunger. You look around, but don’t see any water or trees for shade miles around. The skin on your face is scorched due to you not having a covering on your head. It’s not that you weren’t offered a covering at the beginning of your journey. The people who led the tour knew that you would need one and continued to offer it to you. However, you aggressively denied what you can now clearly see you desperately needed. What’s worse is that you fought tooth and nail to bring what YOU thought was an adequate covering to shield you from the burning sun.
You didn’t know the conditions were going to be this bad, you say. You didn’t know that it was going to get this hot, but the tour guides knew. How often do we do this with God? He knows exactly what protection we need, what covering we need, but we refuse the one that He offers. We refuse even His own protection! We live our life without His covering—without His blessing!
Help God, I’m Stuck!

So, you’re at this spot and seem to be staying at this spot. Everyone around you seems to be moving forward, but not you. You are still in the same pit that you’ve been in for years and years. You look at everyone else who seem to be effortlessly moving on in their life and start to wonder: What’s wrong with me? God, why can’t I seem to get up when it’s so easy for everyone else? Doors seem to be closing on me left and right and everyone I thought were close to me are nowhere to be found. It seems like every time I get up; I’m knocked back down to the ground again. I’m bruised and sore from all the times I tried to step forward in what I thought you’ve called me to do. God, where is this going? I’ve been praying for years! I’m stuck and I can’t seem to get out of this pit!

You feel like you need to have her, but every time you’ve tried to approach a girl you’ve wanted in the past it seems to have failed. This one is not only the prettiest, but also one of the smartest women you’ve known. She’s well out of your league, there’s no way she would give you the time of day, but the Holy Spirit has prompted you within your heart to pursue her. You gulp a bit nervous about what to do in this situation. What to do, what to do? Bad Bosses
You’re warm and cozy in your bed getting the best sleep of your life, when a trickle of sunlight pierces through your window and touches your eye. Grudgingly you open your eyes to the painful bright light of morning, look at your calendar, and let out a big sigh. It’s Monday morning and we all know what that means, it’s time to go to work with that horrible boss you work for! She nags you and picks apart every little thing that you do without even so much as a thank you for the good you have done. She talks about you with the others behind your back. She demeans and humiliates you in front of others to make it seem as though you’re not smart enough to do your own job, which actually makes her look dumb, in your eyes, since she hired you! You could leave the job, but you find rewarding things about other aspects of your work or you just need the money. Either way, the Sunday sermon certainly didn’t help by reinforcing the concept that you have to submit to that witch!
Finding God’s Will and Walking By Faith

I gotta tell ya, I see a lot of crazy nonsense these days in preaching about God’s will—on what it is and isn’t. A lot of people make God’s will seem like it’s some complex Rubik’s cube that only God knows how to solve, but somehow you need to miraculously find how to solve it or ELSE! Honestly, if only God can fully know and understand the complexity of His plan for your life, I’m pretty sure His ‘puzzle’ is way WAY more complicated than a Rubik’s cube and is impossible to solve without His help.
